COMPUTING

I have always had an affinity for technology. I feel a certain responsibility for documenting my experience with the rise of computer technology in our societies. Growing up in the 1980's gives an interesting perspective on both the analog and digital realms. This site is hosted by SDF.org. It is a non-corporate community of computer enthusiasts. I access my files mainly from a late 1990's Thinkpad with a 500mhz CPU and 128 meg of ram.

My History with Computers
1982 Apple II? We had one computer in the classroom to share. I think I remember playing Oregon Trail on it.

1985 (circa) Dad bought a Radio Shack TRS-80. The unit hooked into the tv for a monitor. Files were stored and loaded from a cassette deck. Many hours were spent playing video games and programming BASIC from the provide book.

1988 Packard Bell 8088 Turbo XT Dual Floppy Drives.

1988 Dad either upgraded motherboards or built new computers. We went 286, 386, to 486.

1990 First Windows OS 3.1.

1995 I was working customer service at Radio Shack during the release of Windows 95. My manager Faye and I made the front page of the local paper.
